What do VeggieTales’ “Rack, Shack & Benny” and Easter have in common????
You see, Rack Shack and Benny takes the story from the book of Daniel of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. You may remember it, when King Nebuchadnezzar made a 90 foot statue of himself and commanded everyone to bow down and worship it. Well, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego disobeyed and did not worship the statue.
Well, in the Veggie Tales version, the owner of the plant builds a large bunny for them to bow down and worship. There was a lot of pressure to worship the bunny, but Rack, Shack and Benny stood firm in their obedience to God.
So, what does all of this have to do with Easter? Think about it. For many families and children, what do they look for on Easter morning? They look to see if they have a bunny! While we may not bow down to the bunny, worship takes many forms. Worship is not just singing songs in a church service, or praying. It is our service and adoration given to something. On Easter morning, many families place their adoration on the chocolate bunny or the Easter basket and not on what God did that day, raising Jesus from the dead, conquering death.
Now whether you have an Easter basket or not is up to your family, but I urge you to direct the focus on the death and resurrection of Jesus which gives us hope and a way to Heaven. Let us not be like so many who bow to cultural pressures and worship the bunny, but let us follow the example of Rack, Shack & Benny and take a stand and worship the one and only true God.
If you have the video, then watch the first half up until everyone bows to the bunny, except for Rack, Shack and Benny, and share with your child the importance of keeping God first in our lives because worship comes in many forms and when our sole focus becomes ‘the bunny’ (or anything else), and we neglect God, then we are worshiping ‘the bunny’.
