One of the very first scripture passages that I remember memorizing was 1 John 4:7-8. It was not because I was intentional about memorizing it, rather the verse, word for word, was put to music in a simple chorus. It was through that repetition that I remember the verse.
As we move past Valentine’s Day it is important to note that showing love is not just for one day, but is something that we should do regularly. In fact John writes that if we do not love others, then we do not know God because God is love!
Dear friends, let us love one another, because love is from God, and everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

This is a great time to re-emphasize that God loved us so much that when we understand and believe what Jesus did, that we cannot help but show love to others.
Share with your child/children how you know God loves you and how you have shown His love to others.

- If we cannot love others, then are we born of God? Are you following God? No we are not
- Do you have trouble showing love to some people? Yes, we all have trouble at times because we are human – if appropriate share times when you had trouble loving someone but were able to overcome it because of God.
- Who can you show love to today? Help guide them how and who they can show God’s love to this week.
