Pay careful attention, then, to how you live—not as unwise people but as wise — making the most of the time, because the days are evil.
So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is
Paul begins this chapter by saying that we should “…, be imitators of God, as dearly loved children, and walk in love, as Christ also loved us and gave himself for us, a sacrificial and fragrant offering to God.” Paul is explaining how we should live the Christian life. How we are different now that we are followers of Jesus.
Jesus is the Light of the World (John 8:12) Paul reminds us that we “… were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light.” (v. 8) Others should see the light of Jesus shining through us, not the darkness that we left behind when we believed what Jesus did for us.
Paul is telling us how we need to be consistent in our Christian walk. We need to make the most of the time, not take it lightly, and live as Christ lived. We need to understand what the will of God is in our lives. They way we do that is by spending time in His Word (the Bible) and prayer. If we are not intentional about spending time with God, then we cannot know His will. We are being foolish if we think that we can follow Christ when we do not make the time to know how He lived and what He taught. Be wise and learn more about Jesus so you can be a light in this dark world.
