13Aug_standard_bottomline3Nobody likes to get in trouble, but sometimes we have to obey God rather than obey man, and sometimes that gets us in trouble with men.

There is a movie out now called “God’s Not Dead” where a college student is instructed to write the words “God is dead” on a piece of paper or fail the class. The student has a tough choice to make, obey God and suffer in school, or disobey God and take the easy path and write some words down, even if he doesn’t believe them.

Often in the New Testament, part of the Bible, we see that the apostles, those who knew and followed Jesus, would obey God by telling others about Jesus. When they did this they were often put in jail, beat up and all kinds of bad things. Yet they continued to obey God, eventhough men did not approve and told them to stop talking about Jesus.

Look at what the apostles did when they were told not to tell others about Jesus in the Book of Acts. There are two stories, Acts 4:1-22 and Acts 5:12-42. In Acts 5:29, after being told that they were not to talk about Jesus, Peter and the others replied, “We must obey God rather than men!” They obeyed God eventhough they didn’t know how it would all work out. Whether they would be able to walk free, or be put in jail. Either way, they knew they had to obey God.

How about you? Are you willing to obey God when it might be difficult?
