I learned a difficult lesson playing Minecraft the other day. I had spent a lot of tie mining, even crafting some tools, being ever so watchful for the enemies that could harm me, but of course, the big spider came and attacked me and I died.
All of the items I had collected were gone. I no longer possessed them.
In life, we may want the latest game system, the newest phone, and the list could be endless, but in the end, it doesn’t matter what we gained here on earth, what matters is what we’ve done for Jesus. Let’s look at Matthew 6:19-24,
“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!
No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.
Yes it is true that in Minecraft you can store up your treasures in chests and when you respawn you can retrieve items from the chest, but that is a lesson for another time.
The point is that only what we do for God will last. We can live focusing on getting the newest and best items, or we can live focused on what God wants us to do.
Minecraft is a game, you want to store up items in the game to build and defend yourself. Life is not a game, and we will either live it for ourselves, or we will live it for God.
