I often play in creative mode. Recently I played in survival mode and noticed a big difference. Let me explain.

I know that you can get armor to protect yourself, but in creative mode, there really is no reason to use it. You can walk around with your friends and maybe occasionally they will annoy you, trying to take things stored in your chests, or doing some demo, or remodeling to your creations and structures. But there really is no harm to you.

In survival mode, there are many dangers to you, set to destroy you, and armor can be valuable to have to protect you from the enemies.

Statistics are aid to show that many youth walk away from the faith as they leave for college. If we believe that, then I have to wonder, is it because we have not taught them how to protect themselves? Parents homeschool their children, raise them “in the church” and protect them from the dangers of the world. It’s kind of like playing in creative mode. They may see the dangers around them, but have no need to defend against them. They are isolated and protected.

When they leave that protective environment, it is like they leave the creative mode and enter survival mode where they encounter attacks, unprepared to defend their faith.

We must teach our children and youth how to defend their faith and protect themselves against the schemes of the devil. Think of the armor available in Minecraft like the armor of God.

In Ephesians chapter 6 we read,

minecraft_armor_of_god10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. 11 Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. 12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God,

Are you putting on the armor of God daily as you walk in this world (survival mode), or is it not needed because you think you are protected from the evils of this world as you walk in your protected environment (creative mode)?

I urge you to put on the full armor of God each day, even as you walk in “creative mode”. That way you are always prepared to stand against the schemes of the devil.
